Is Verizon already canning the Motorola DROID 2 in favor of the DROID 2 World Edition?

Call it a blunt dagger aimed straight into the hearts of existing Motorola DROID 2 owners, but there is a rumor floating around hinting that the just recently released Froyo packing smartphone is already close to its shelf life. It's speculated that the DROID 2 will be phased out some time soon, which is strange to say the least, especially when it's still riding fresh in the memory of consumers.

Instead, Big Red would be replacing it with the unannounced Motorola DROID 2 World Edition which essentially adds global support. In addition, the eerie feeling is somewhat more telling when you see the words “while supplies last” plastered underneath the device in what appears to be some kind of comparison chart.

This move will prove to be interesting when you take into consideration what kind of pricing the DROID 2 World Edition will be flaunting. If it's priced identical to the current DROID 2, which is at $199.99 with a contract, it would prove to be a kick in the rear if the World Edition is priced the same. It's essentially going to be the same handset, but will add GSM support for international travelers. Still, we can't take everything to heart as of right now until Big Red comes out with some telling details.
